—  About Us

Our names are Aya and Chika. We both moved to Brisbane Australia with our families about 15 years ago. We love Australia- it is so beautiful, and the people are so friendly! In Japan, we have a long history and a unique culture that is sometimes mysterious. We wanted to tell our friends from Australia about our country’s culture, so we decided make our business Orizuru, which includes Shodo, Japanese calligraphy, and Origami art. Our classes provide a fun environment where you can learn Japanese culture with plenty of laughs along the way. So why don’t you open the door to a different world and study with us!

I'm Aya from Saitama prefecture in Japan. In 2006, I moved to Brisbane with my husband and kids and have been here ever since and I am enjoying my life here in Brisbane now. My Japanese calligraphy life started from when I was so little because my mom is a calligraphy master, so it has always been a part of my life. Calligraphy was so normal for me , but after I moved here I saw how Australian people were so interested in Japanese calligraphy so I wanted share this with you and enjoy learning Japanese calligraphy together. Origami and calligraphy are very traditional and precious customs for Japanese and are a part of Japanese life. There are a number of elements to both Origami and calligraphy which include meditation, brain stimulation, fine motor skills etc, so they are absolutely good for you! Please join us and have a wonderful new experience.

I’m Chika from Nagoya. I have been practicing Japanese Calligraphy since I was 5 years old. Recently, Calligraphy is also practiced as meditation. When I creative calligraphy work, always concentrate with smell of ink and the feel of paper. It makes me clear mind and forces for creativity. Not only for Japanese Calligraphy but also origami is the tools of meditation, too. Using fingers leads to brain activation and you can get a sense of accomplishment. I am excited to teach Japanese calligraphy, origami and language in a fun way with you! Let’s enjoy new experiences together.
