Paper Folding Artwork

Origami

Japanese origami began sometime after Buddhist monks from China carried paper to Japan during the 6th century. Paper folding challenges us at the cognitive level as we follow instructions, learning new skills and activities. Physically our hands become active. Impulses are sent to the brain activating both left and right hemispheres of the brain. It’s a fun activity to do with friends or by yourself. Find out more about origami

Japanese Calligraphy

Shodo

Shodo means the “way of calligraphy,” and it's one of the most respected Asian fine arts. Painted with brush and ink, Japanese calligraphy uses centuries old kanji (“Chinese characters”), which due to their pictographic nature have similarities to abstract expressionism. Find out more about Shodo
